I do artistic pieces for personal development and exploration but also do commissioned pieces as well, that expand beyond portrait work to landscapes, architecture and abstract. I have had numerous commissions for abstract work that have allowed pieces to be tailored to a specific space. I love taking on commissions because you get to know the people you are creating for, their interests, passions and values. It deepens the meaning the of the work.
Max Marian Kalin is an Uxbridge Ontario photographer and abstract painter with over 40 years of experience in photography. "My primary interest in the art is the deconstruction of the environment." Max takes a few minutes to tell me a little more about himself and his art.
In my work I love to play with the shapes of cities, buildings, people living in boxes, balanced against the shapes of nature. I want my work to be aesthetically pleasing, alluring. People who know me easily recognize my work.
"People don't have to look at art as something costly. Art is everywhere if you just look at things from a different angle. Industrial areas are brimming with amazing design and beautiful lines. You just need to look at things in a slightly different way to see it".
One of the biggest pleasures of creating art is having a home filled with spirit and soul. Living with the finished pieces, (mine and the work of others), makes a home special and unique.
Uxbridge Ontario potter & ceramic artist Vanessa Slater loves making functional pieces that she knows will be enjoyed in someone's hands. "When I go to a friend's house and see a bowl sitting safe high up on a shelf, I feel like it's gone there to die. I want people to enjoy using my pottery. If it breaks I can always make you a different one!"
Lesley Wilkins is the heart (and head) behind The Artist's Page. Here she shares a bit about her love of all things art.
Painting, for Kawartha artist Annabelle Jane Murray, is meditation – it's a peaceful place where taps into the magic of the natural world.
We hope to see everyone at the Uxbridge Studio Tour (September 17 & 18) – one of the most popular annual art events in north Durham Region!
